National High Adventure Sites

Philmont

Philmont Scout Ranch is a national camping area, owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America. Philmont is large, comprising 137,493 acres or about 215 square miles of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rockies. The ranch operates 32 staffed camps and 50 unstaffed camps. Philmont has high mountains that dominate rough terrain with an elevation ranging from 6,500 to 12,441 feet.

Peaks towering over two miles high throw down a challenge. It's the challenge that means rugged, he-man adventure in the tradition of the mountain man. You can backpack in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and test your camping and outdoor skills. It's a chance do discover yourself in the high country! Philmont Scout Ranch.

Northern Tier National High Adventure Base

Don't miss the boat! One of the most beautiful, and remote parts of North America offers a unique opportunity for Scouts. Canoeing, hiking, fishing, and winter camping in and around the beautiful lakes of northern Minnesota and southern Canada await you at the Northern Tier.

There are many Northern Tier National High Adventure programs available. The trips consist of wilderness canoeing through some of the most beautiful scenery in North America.

Packard High Adventure Base

Located in the high country of southern Colorado near Poncha Springs, Packard High Adventure Base offers white water rafting and backpacking programs in a breathtaking mountain setting. For a really relaxing dip, try the 18,000 gallon hot tub at Packard's base camp!

The scenery is fantastic, with some of the most spectacular sunsets ever seen over the sweeping vistas of the Arkansas River.

Packard High Adventure Base offers rafting on the upper Arkansas River, with stretches of water that will challenge even experienced white water rafters. The experienced staff guides will teach Scouts and Leaders how to negotiate these formidable waters safely, but we guarantee an adrenaline rush!

The hiking trails out of Packard High Adventure Base have to be seen to be believed. The Packard high country treks go up (way up) into some of the most rugged territory in the United States, and provide even seasoned backpackers with a worthy challenge.

The High Adventure fee for 2000 is $260 for Scouts and leaders.
